On May 16, 2025, Citieslab hosted Citiesclass Vol.1: Smart Urban Analytics, a hands-on training program designed to provide students with a deeper exploration of GIS analysis, particularly in the context of public facility planning. The session created a collaborative learning space where participants could sharpen their spatial analysis skills and apply them to real urban planning challenges.

The training guided participants through a structured analytical workflow that combined spatial data and demographic insights to identify education deserts — areas characterized by low accessibility and high demand in terms of student demographics. Key materials covered in this session included road networks and public middle school location mapping, travel distance analysis to public middle schools, middle school student demographics, average travel distance assessment in each sub-district, and the interpretation of bivariate choropleth maps to support evidence-based facility planning.
