Citieslab organized Citiescourse Series 5, focusing on Urban Environmental Analysis under the theme “Beyond the Canopy: A Holistic Guide to Heat Metrics, 3-30-300, and Green View Index.” The session was held on Sunday, May 25, 2025, from 09:00 to 12:00 (online via Zoom).

The course was led by Firma Afrianto, an urban planning practitioner and Principal at Sagamartha Ultima Indonesia, who guided participants through practical approaches to analyzing urban environmental conditions using GIS tools.

Throughout the session, participants explored several key topics:

Heat Metrics: Understanding Urban Heat Island and Thermal Humidity Index to assess temperature distribution and urban thermal comfort.

3-30-300 Principle: Evaluating access to urban greenery, ensuring visibility of trees, sufficient canopy coverage, and proximity to green spaces.

Green View Index: Measuring the proportion of visible greenery from a pedestrian perspective to assess visual quality and human-nature connection in urban areas.

This series aimed to equip participants with analytical tools and frameworks to better understand and design more livable, climate-responsive urban environments.
