Citieslab successfully conducted Citiescourse Series 8: Simulating the City in Motion – Auto-OD & Agent-Based Urban Mobility Modeling in QGIS on January 31, 2026. The program aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of urban mobility dynamics through data-driven simulation approaches.

The training introduced participants to the concept of cities as dynamic systems, where movement patterns can be analyzed and modeled using population data and spatial frameworks. Through a combination of theoretical sessions and practical exercises, participants explored how urban mobility can be simulated to better support planning and decision-making processes.

Key topics covered in this session included urban mobility as a spatial system, the use of WorldPop population data as a basis for movement analysis, the development of Origin-Destination (OD) matrices using Auto-OD tools, and the principles and implementation of agent-based mobility simulation. Participants also learned how to simulate movement patterns, analyze density and flow, identify activity centers, and visualize and interpret simulation results.
