"Nature-Based Solution "

In 2022, a pre-feasibility study focusing on the Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) approach was conducted by GGGI, Tripleline, and Nusantara Urban Advisory in collaboration with Citieslab. The study concentrates on climate resilient investments for Balikpapan and Samarinda, with a focus on the testing and development of a financing tool that will support longer term investments in urban resilience. Citieslab’s involvement in this endeavor encompasses actively mapping out and compiling data related to major Climate Resilience Challenges in Samarinda and Balikpapan, specifically addressing issues such as urban flooding and water security.

We are also conducting a review of government documents to examine regulations, actions, and programs aimed at addressing flood issues and water security in Balikpapan and Samarinda. Nature-based solutions (NBS) offer an alternative approach designed to provide environmental benefits, support natural processes, and offer numerous advantages, including costeffectiveness, ecological benefits, improved resilience, social and psychological benefits, and enhanced visual appeal of the city.
